Overview

v0 is Vercel's AI UI generator: describe a screen or paste a design and it produces React components — Next.js, Tailwind and shadcn/ui by default — that you can iterate on in chat, preview live and push to a repository or deploy straight to Vercel. It is narrower than Lovable (UI-first rather than full-stack) and that focus is the point.

Where it fits in my work

When a product already has a Next.js codebase, v0 is the fastest way to get a credible first version of a screen: a settings page, a pricing table, a dashboard card. I take the component into the repository, wire it to real data, and let Codex or Claude Code adapt it to the project's conventions. For a product that does not exist yet, Lovable gets further faster because it builds the backend too. I looked at whether v0's output holds up in production in my v0 review : good bones, real Tailwind, but every generated component still needs an owner.

Best for

Where it fits in my stack

v0 → Vercel for deploys, GitHub for the repository the components land in, Codex and Claude Code to integrate and refactor what it generates. It is a drafting tool in the build stage of my stack , not a platform.

Verdict

v0 is a strong drafting tool for teams already on Next.js — it removes the blank-canvas hour, not the engineering. I reach for it on existing codebases and for nothing else, which is exactly the job it is good at.
